How do I find out what textbooks I need for my courses?

The library does not rent or sell textbooks - to purchase your textbooks, reach out to the SUNY Ulster Bookstore operated by Barnes and Noble at 845-688-1917. The library cannot assist you with book vouchers or online access codes.

Beginning in Spring 2025, SUNY Ulster and Barnes and Noble are introducing UStack, an opt-out textbook rental program which provides all textbooks on a per-credit hour price. When you register for classes each semester, you are automatically enrolled in the program. The opt-out period typically runs a few weeks into the semester.

Although enrollment is automatic, it is vitally important that you verify your order and how you want to receive your books.  You can do this:

  • Using an email that was sent to you from the book store
  • On the Bookstore website

If you are having trouble paying for your textbooks, the Community Cares Emergency Funding program may be able to assist you! Apply for a grant through the Ulster Community College Foundation.

There are over 70,000 print books and even more ebooks available from the library to support students in their coursework, all freely available to SUNY Ulster students. Some textbooks have been put in the Course Reserves section at the Circulation Desk and may be borrowed for in library use only.
